We would go for awhile with normal poops, start to switch him over from a bland diet to regular food, and boom, return of the killer diarrhea. Plato got tired of the homemade bland diet of boiled meats and rice and was losing weight, so it was clear he couldn't just subsist on that. Our vet recommended that we start adding some commercial dog food bland food which we did very slowly and that worked and the vet said he could stay on that indefinitely. But, the vet felt that there are other foods that are better quality and that we should try a very slow switch to a better food. So we bought good quality dry and wet dog food meant for dogs with sensative digestive systems, and very, very slowly started to switch Plato off of the prescription bland diet and onto the other dog food. It worked, but it was very slow. I found that any switch in food for Plato has to be done very gradually or the diarrhea starts again. I had to go much slower than the vet recommended. Good luck. Please let me know how your dog progresses.

Susan and Plato

Did the diarrhea resolve. Bailey calmed down some, but it wasn't a miracle cure. We used a holistic tonic called Rescue Remedy that's available at a lot of the pet stores and vets, melatonin in 3 mg tablets (regular old fashioned tablets NOT time release) and you can buy or make your own lavendar spray to use on her bedding, face and feet.

One more thing that I would suggest is keeping her crate available to her with comfy bedding inside and a quilt over it to make a sort of cave-like oasis. our dog Plat has been very comforted in his cave during storms. But we never shut him in. The door is always open so he can get in and out at will.

I hope things improve. Here goes, in case it helps:

I's so sorry to take so long to answer! I have been busy clearing ice and snow and trying to catch up on things. I don't have a particular recommendation for diapers for a female dog, since I have only used diapers for our male dog, but I could pass on a few thoughts. First, think about whether you want to go with disposable or washable diapers. I used washables with disposable feminine napkins inside to help absorption since I fould the pet inserts didn't do the trick. I tried washable diapers from a fnacy pet ship in faulous prints but they were too binding on Bailey with his fragile lets even though they were meant for much bigger dogs. I tried an online brand and they were good and the once that worked best were from Petco. I hope that helps.
